we_magazine.
Long before WeQ started and at the time the meanwhile legendary Obama “Yes, we can!” campaign took off, we – Bea Gschwend, Steffen Büffel and myself – published our first we-magazine in 2008.
It was and still is all about empowering the collective. It’s deeply rooted in my personal experience with The Well in the mid eighties in Sausalito, CA.
Below is our first edition. It included a stellar line-up of authors and interview partners 🙂 It also held a manifesto which you can find at the bottom of this page and to which we still try to live up to.
The we_magazine is my muse.
When ever I feel there is time for a new one, we simply do it. So far we’ve published 10 editions and the next one is planned for this years’ ARS Electronica. It will focus on the interface of arts, science and innovation. Just as we did in our “digitale transformationen” in 2004 – which I published together with Monika Fleischmann.
You can find most of our issues on our issuu-page.
The team meanwhile is reduced to Bea (design) and me. Over the years we’ve reached out to an audience in more than 120 countries and it has brought us new jobs. For me, the most the most prestigeous ones were the very first Google book “Think Quarterly”, in which I had three articles, and “Thrive”, a publication we did for the world famous Kiel Institute for the World Economy.
