A few weeks ago I’ve written “The Bigger Picture #1: When a self-proclaimed stable genius (Trump) teams up with an entrepreneurial visionary (Musk)” – now we’ve walked further down the road—and we’re starting to see what has already unfolded, laying the groundwork for what comes next: the systematic dismantling of anything that dares to place even the slightest check on power.

Key actions include:

  • Reinstating Schedule F to replace career civil servants with political loyalists.
  • Targeting watchdog groups and nonprofits like CREW by challenging their tax-exempt status.
  • Undermining the judiciary by attacking judges and calling for their impeachment
  • Pressuring universities over funding transparency, threatening academic independence.
  • Compiling an “enemies list” of critics, including former officials and members of the Jan. 6 Committee, Law Firms.

These moves reflect a systematic attempt to erode oversight, silence dissent, and consolidate executive control—posing serious challenges to the U.S. system of checks and balances. Legal cases are piling up. Courts are trying to hold the government accountable.

But Trump and his administration seem unfazed by the courts’ rulings. Instead of respecting them, they ignore or downplay the decisions, insisting: “The people gave us a full mandate. We hold the House, the Senate, and the Presidency. Why should a court have the authority to stand in our way?”

This is reality in the US. People are scared There is a huge fear for retiliation. It’s understandable.

What is needed – I think – is nothing less than

A MASSIVE CIVIC UPRISING

Why? Because they divide us and make us weaker. They single out one law firm. One university. One agency. …. One after another. Some of them bend and give in. Like law firms agreeing to work pro bono to not lose government contracts. And others don’t. The result is a division within a group. It makes the group smaller and therefore weaker.

So, we need unity among those who do NOT bend down. Law firms AND agencies AND universities AND … they all come together and fight together. Because their cases are the same at the core: They all fight the dismantling of the existing checks and balances of power. HAVARD AND the law firms AND the agencies …. AND the people come together and fight Trump&Co … If this is happening, this will divide Trump & Co and weaken their power. And they will break.

We’ve seen such uprisings before. The Civil Rights Movement is just one example. It won’t be easy. It will hurt. And success is not necessarily garanteed. But IF this is happening, then America can shine again. It’s the only way out.

And IF the CIVIC UPRISING wins, then Trump was good at least for something: He gave the power back to the people!

David Brooks – whom I deeply respect – is saying the same.
