Does war need PR?

The IDF Spokesperson’s Unit is the Israel Defense Forces’ professional body responsible for media and public relations in Israel and around the world.

They started a youtube channel on Dec, 30.

Does war need PR?
I guess only when you are fighting on the wrong side!

Youtube doesn’t seem to feel comfortable with it as well. Here are some IDF statements:

We were saddened on Dec. 30, 2008 when YouTube took down some of our exclusive footage showing the IDF’s operational success in operation Cast Lead against Hamas extremists in the Gaza Strip. Fortunately, due to blogger and viewer support, YouTube has returned the footage they removed.

Newest update: Instead of removing the footage youtube has restricted viewing ability. We are in the process of opening up a blog so that you will be able to view the videos without problem there.

  1. War doesn’t need Public Relations. But IMHO every party in a war should be allowed to express their point of view. As well as everyone should enter the conversation to share opinions.

In my opinion Isreal should stop their war and Hamas should stop their war as well.

During the six month’s cease fire Hamas activists fired thousands of rockets (Kassam, Grad, Fadschr) to kill people in Israel. Nobody cared in the so called international community. Yesterday evening I saw a documentation in the German TV (ZDF: http://www.zdf.de/ZDFmediathek/content/661680?inPopup=true ) with pictures of Kindergardens in Sederot that were build like bunkers – already some years ago because of constant fire.

So wrong or right side is not like false or true but a question of morality and perspective. Public Relations can help to identify and learn of different moralities and perspectives.

This requires all participants to enter a stage of conversation. That’s the real fault of both of them Hamas and Isreal. I guess a lot of people are willing to talk with each others but the organizations and their leader fail. They don’t perform Public Relations – they all execute propaganda.

  2. Hamas launched thousands of rockets before cease fire but they only launched a few of them during cease fire. Hamas resigned from cease fire and announced to fight again.
