Game Convention – Developer Conference …

in Leipzig just started with a very impressive key note by Julian Eggebrecht, factor 5. His topic: “No Sex, No Drugs, and little Rock’n Roll – Ratings and the challenged creativity in games.”

With great examples from the movie industry (“Bonnie & Clyde”, 1967, “Clockwerk Orange” by Stanley Kubrick, 1971 and “Reservoir Dogs” by Quentin Tarrantino), he showed the weird and pseudo discussion which is going on in the game industry about ratings concerning violence and sex. It seems that it is all about lobbying and arbitrariness.

He was pleading for games as a valuable art form (just like movies, books …), pushing it beyond existing edges.
